When was the last time you took time out of your busy schedule to acknowledge (let alone celebrate) your many accomplishments?
We spend so much time obsessing about the future. And when we accomplish a goal, we’ve been conditioned to immediately move onto the next … constantly doing, doing, doing. We tend to focus so much on the “daily hustle” as we are constantly pushed to move beyond the bread-and-butter ideas that we often forget to celebrate our successes.
Thing is, celebrating even the smallest of wins will position you as a winner and will ultimately attract more success. The power of progress is fundamental to human nature. By celebrating you’ll be acknowledging progress which will keep you going. When we celebrate successes, endorphins are released which boosts self-esteem, leaving you wanting to do even more. It creates a deeper hunger to build an even stronger base, pulling you to greater victory and triumph.
Conversely, if you fail to celebrate, you’re training your brain that what you’re doing isn’t at all important. Simply put, the lack of celebration will lead you to a feeling of emptiness that will result in less focus and decreased performance over time.
So, as we’re moving rapidly towards the middle of this whirlwind of a year, take a bit of time to look back at all that you’ve overcome and achieved, and be proud. You wouldn’t be where you are now without the small, mighty wins. Use celebrations to fuel you, even if you haven’t reached your ultimate goal.
Make a bit of a fuss, it doesn’t have to be expensive or flashy in any way.
It could be as simple as:
- Having afternoon tea “alfresco” while nibbling on a gooey brownie and savouring every morsel.
- Taking the day off work and doing something fun.
- Enjoying a great cup of coffee, a moment alone and some self-reflection to energize you to even greater hights.
- Buying audacious underwear - nobody has to know.
- Doing a victory dance to your favourite tune.
- Rallying up your supporters. The secret to living is giving – even when you’re celebrating your own accomplishments.
Don’t lose sight of the small victories it took to reach your crowning achievements.
Remember, life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. The small wins, the tiny triumphs, the everyday victories … celebrate them, they will take you there.
Your accomplishments, big or small, are impactful to your success and deserves to be acknowledged. So celebrate more often, regardless of what you wish was different.
